16/10/2019 was a tragedic phenomenal and a black Wednesday to onitsha, in Anambra State, Nigeria...ochanja traders to be precise.

The fire outbreak started about 12:36pm in the afternoon, a tanker-trailer loaded with petroleum product lost control and crashed inside a pavement in between the expressway big gutter.

As a result, the fire spilled over through the gutter and affected many shops and houses which alot of goods got burnt.

A shop owner at The Market writes:

"Let me tell you a little about ochanja traders especially those ones that own warehouses and control millions.

I'm saying this because we own shops there and last year, I was in charge of my mum's shops there so I've had close contact with them.

They don't believe in banks and it's features (mobile banking)
Even if he buys goods worth a million, an ochanja trader would rather give you cash and stand to watch you count and confirm it.

In our plaza for example, new designs of shoes and sandals come in every hours so as he is selling, he is keeping money to buy new ones for tomorrow's sale.
You can stop an ochanja trader and see a good amount of cash on him.
Every evening, he buys new goods with it in preparation for tomorrow's sales."

We are not an Government organisation or a big-named company, No. We are simply a group of concerned Residents in Anambra, Nigeria.

And we humbly beg of you to donate whatever you can to these traders who may have lost 10years of hard labour and also to those that lost their lives, and the majority that sustained different degrees of injury.
