On July 29, 2018, Spectator Index published a World Health Organization research that ranked suicide per 100,000, per country. Nigeria placed fifth with 15,000 suicide in every 100,000 suicides.

Nigeria is a highly volatile country where hardships are a part of the everyday life. A significant number of Nigerian families live below the minimum monthly wage of N30,000.

Information obtained from several news reports show that students constitute the highest victims of suicide cases in the last eight months, the lead cause being low grades, depression and financial pressures on their families which has left them neglected and with too little love or attention.

Experts fear that more Nigerians are likely to succumb to suicide if urgent attention is not taken to address underlying factors that are fuelling the upsurge. They specifically warned that there will be increasing cases of suicide and mental illnesses among Nigerian adolescents.

I Choose to Live Campaign is created to help create awareness and educate students about the rising rate of suicide among adolescents, motivate and encourage them to work hard and be patient in order to be successful and live a happier life. To Be your brother’s keeper, speak out/talk to people, build bonds, encourage people to seek help, and seek professional help.

This we do by organising forums, seminars workshops and counselling sessions in secondary schools within Nigeria in partnership with the schools counselling department.

Your generous and kind contribution will be used to purchase public address system, projector and projector board, portable power generator, and other equipment and coaching materials.

Please Note: All members of our Team are volunteers.
