Space exploration and application is a big thing for the African continent. In the fundamentals of space, we are all one, but in space exploration and application, some continents are more advanced than others. The African continent is gradually experiencing a great revolution in Space Science and Technology, and this will have profound impact on African economy and quality of life.

My name is Abraham Tobiloba Akinwale.  I am dedicating my life to insure the African continent embraces space exploration and application.  I have an immediate opportunity to attend the Space Studies Program at International Space University, France, but in order to attend I need to raise 5,500 Euros for the remainder of the tuition and 1,500 Euros for my air ticket which makes 7000 euros in total.

Some more about myself.  I was raised in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria. My interest in space gave me the opportunity to study Mechanical Engineering, Obafemi Awolowo University.   At the university, I had the privilege to be the President of the Space Club from August 2014 to June 2017 where I had the opportunity to lead students in space projects, outreach programmes, CanSat Leadership Training Programme, Geocaching, GNSS training and many more.

During my undergraduate days, I was able to join the Space Generation Advisory Council as a member and I worked with other members and the then National Point of Contact in Organising space outreach programs around the country. I have been able to make progress in the organisation over the past six (6) years. I was able to manage the first African Space Generation Workshop with 12 Organising Team Members from 7 African Countries and the event which was held at the Federal University of Technology hosted 147 delegates from 18 African countries. I have also since June 2017 been the National Point of Contact Nigeria.  In  that capacity I had the opportunity to link up students and young professionals with the space industry, education and the government. I have been able to work with a host of team members to organise programs and create a structure that will work for the future. I am also part of the Programming Team for the Organising Team of the Space Generation Congress 2019 which will be coming later in October at Washington DC, United States.

I have Co-Founded an aerospace company in Nigeria which designs and manufacture unmanned aerial vehicle for earth observation purposes, aerial surveillance and precision agriculture. The organisation aims to promote Space Application and Education among the African community at large and help provide solutions to most of our security and climate challenges by satellite application. The organisation aims to also be able to increase capacity building of African Youth in Space Science and Technology in the nearest future.

I have shared so many presentations about space science and technology to different audiences, students and young professionals through Nigeria and also through virtual means to other African countries. I had the opportunity to be one of the five global recipients of the Space Generation Leadership Award which was given to me at the Space Generation Congress and the 69th International Astronautical Congress, Bremen, Germany 2018 by the Space Generation Advisory Council. The award was given to five (5) recipients all over the world. There was one Australian, one Mexican, two Europeans and I was the only Nigerian and the only African.

I had the opportunity to also be invited as a delegate representative of the Space Generation Advisory Council to the 56th Session of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee Meeting, which I was not able to attend in person. I also have had the privilege to be the facilitator for co-collaboration between the Space Generation Advisory Council and the African Leadership Conference Youth Forum 2017 which give the opportunity for the African Union to sponsor some of the SGAC member who are non-Nigerian and the National Space Research and Development Agency, Nigeria sponsored the Nigerian SGAC members.

I had applied for Space Studies Program at International Space University, France which is one of the best course for a Space Enthusiast and professional who wants to learn the core values and Space in its entirety. The course will cover some major topics like Space Technology, Space Policy and Law and Entrepreneurship, Space Application and many more. I have been privileged to be one of the selected students who will be undertaking the lifetime training.

  • The Course starts from June 22nd and ends on August 24th, 2019 in Strasbourg, France.
  • The Course fee is 18,500 Euros and it includes tuition fee, stays, and accommodation.
  • I have also received the partial funding 12,000 Euros by the International Space University.
  • I have been able to pay 1,000 Euros out of the remaining 6,500 Euros
  • I have 5,500 Euros left to be paid by June 9, 2019.
  • I will be covering all my travel expenses including the travel fare, visa and medical insurance.

I am not in a condition to afford the fee and I wouldn't like to let go of the opportunity. Hence, I am seeking financial support of 7,000 Euros for my studies at International Space University, Strasbourg, France. This fee will cover:

  • Remaining Tuition Fee   -              5,500 Euros
  • Air Ticket                     -              1,500 Euros

I would in turn of this commit myself to support space growth in Africa by encouraging capacity building in the African youths as regard Space Science and Technology. I will deliver more workshops to educate and enlighten about space application and exploration growth in Nigeria and our continent at large. I will help guide more students and young professionals towards the path that will bring better development structurally to our continent. I am also ready to provide reports and volunteer for space programs, outreach programs that will help develop our system.

The investment we make into our youths today will go a long way in building our continent for a better tomorrow.
