 About Alcohol Aerosol Burner Stove

Alcohol Aerosol Burner is a new type of safe, environmentally-user friendly and non-explosive alcohol pressure stove which uses compressed air to automate movement of misty alcohol particles into modified gas burner that are lighted to serve as stove for cooking or heating foodstuffs and other items.

This stove can be designed as different variants which contain liquid fuel and compressed air in two merged upper-lower Siamese twin canisters respectively. Variants using pre-compressed air filled with air-compressors or manual hand pumps can be made.

The best liquid fuel for this stove is90-95% ethanol, isopropyl alcohol or miscible kerosene-isopropyl alcohol (kerosol) mixture. Variant designs of this stove can be made by re-engineering conventional gas cookers in varying Size and shape.

Introduction/Description of Alcohol Aerosol Burner

A new type of alcohol pressure stove aptly named Alcohol Aerosol Burner has been granted patent by the Nigeria Patent Office under the auspices of the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP), Abuja, Nigeria.

This alcohol stove uses compressed air to carry misty alcohol into a modified gas burner. The inventor has shown YouTube videos of functional experimental models and prototype of the alcohol stove which comprises, modified gas cylinder (filled with compressed air), modified storage tank of kerosene lantern (filled with alcohol), modified two fluid atomizer nozzles and modified gas burner. However, prototypes contain liquid fuel and compressed air in merged upper and lower Siamese twin canisters respectively.

Alcohol Aerosol Burner pressure stoves store alcohol as a liquid in a upper fuel tank under pressure. The tank is pressurized by means of air compressor or a hand pump. The liquid fuel is pushed through a tube to a detachable nozzle or two fluid atomizernozzles and sprayed into the modified gas burner. When the modified gas burner is hot, it continuously vaporizes alcohol aerosol into more tiny droplets of liquid alcohol. The burner and detachable two fluid atomizer nozzle assembly is designed to promote more air-alcohol mixing so as toto produce a flame derived from more complete and efficient combustion. This alcohol pressure stove has two taps as flame control apparatus.A tap controls inlet of air into the upper canister while the second tap controls inlet of aerosol into the modified gas burner. Among several possible variant of is a network of modified gas burners coupled to nozzles linked to alcohol storage tanks that are each connected to a nexus of feeder pipes that allows inlet of compressed air from a big gas cylinder similar to the assembly that would be demonstrated in the experimental model. This concept is ideal for any safe environmentally friendly laboratory set up.

Aims and Objectives of invention

  1. To have a safely designed, lightweight, well tested and scientifically analyzed alcohol pressure stove.
  2. To develop a portable alcohol stove that can be used conveniently indoor or outdoor like gas stoves.
  3. To make an alcohol that is easily manufactured, repaired and refilled.
  4. To make a more durable non-explosive alcohol pressure stove that utilizes 95-100% alcohol or miscible kerosene-isopropyl alcohol mixture.
  5. To make a versatile alcohol stove that can use different types of alcohol or miscible alcohol-kerosene mixtures.
  6.  To build an alcohol pressure stove than can contain large volumes of liquid fuel and compressed air which can burn for very long periods of time.
  7. To build an alcohol pressure stove that does not have gasket.
  8. To make versatile variants of alcohol pressure stove which is automated by compressed air supplied by an air compressor device, manual pump or both.
  9. To make an alcohol pressure stove of large, medium, small and miniature sizes.
  10. To make an alcohol pressure stove that is best suited for safe and environmentally friendly laboratory use where in a large gas cylinder filled with compressed air is networked via pipes into several alcohol containing canisters that have each been coupled to a modified gas burner.
  11. To make an alcohol pressure stove that does not contain a gasket when the assembly is automated by large volumes of compressed air that is contained in a separate canister.
  12. To make an alcohol pressure stove that would not leak liquid fuel even if a gasket is mounted around the manual hand pump device.

Advantages of Alcohol Aerosol Burner

1. Alcohol Aerosol Burner would be lightweightand would store more liquid fuel as well as gaseous propellant (compressed air) so it would function for longer period.

2. It would not require primer pan or and pump because its automated by compressed air which would be refillable.

3. It would not require gasket at the hand pump to fuel tank interface so no leakage of alcohol occurs and need for regular repair is unnecessary.

4. Aerosol producing embodiment comprising Siamese twin canister with two taps flame control part can be detached from the burner proper.

7. Burns longer than 10-30minutes period typical of conventional Aerosol stoves

8. Copious amount of water or a class A fire extinguisher can quench any fire incident.

9. It can function as an indoor or outdoor cook-stove as well as in scientific laboratories to substitute for potentially explosive gas burners.

 8. Anti-spill and explosive design.

 9. Sleek green energy design and made of brass to ensure lightweight durable devices.

 10. Refillable device, ethanol can be brewed and distilled by users at remote location while the petrochemical industry would produce large amounts of isopropyl alcohol and kerosene.

11. To create a safer laboratory set up, it can be miniaturized to make laboratory burners that sever as Bunsen burner substitutewhich are networked to a big gas cylinder containing compressed air via a network of feeder pipes with taps.

12. It can use a modified gas burner, burns longer, more efficient burning, utilizes a wide range of liquid fuel such as ethanol, isopropyl alcohol, kerosene-isopropyl alcohol.

13. Its more marketable like gas burners that safer, non-explosive, environmentally friendly while reducing the harmful effects of climate change.

14. Users can brew and distill their own ethanol at remote locations.

15. As set up in the experimental model, a large cylinder containing compressed air could be networked to many liquid fuel containing canisters wherein each canister has been coupled with its own modified gas burner to ensure human, material and environmental safety.

16. A variant design which has separate pressure valve air inlet as well as manual pump can be made.

17. It does not leak liquid fuel through the gasket whenever a manual hand pump embodiment is included in the less costly design because the canister containing compressed air is separate from the liquid fuel canister.

Applications of Alcohol Aerosol Burner

Alcohol Aerosol Burner has a basic compressed air automated sprayer embodiment that could be applied to design the following devices apart from alcohol pressure stoves:-

1. spraying device for agro allied chemicals and paints.

2. Cleansing gadget

3. Alcohol Aerosol Burner as house-building heater

4. Spray painting devices

5. Any liquid fuel Aerosol Burner

6. Any liquid fuel Aerosol spray

7. Liquid fuel electricity generation device

8. Vehicle propulsion device in air and on land or sea.

9. Laboratory equipment as substitute for gas cookers and Bunsen burners

User’s Instruction Manual

An instruction manual for users would be enclosed in the package of alcohol aerosol burner stoves as mandatory for all types of alcohol stoves.

This instruction would include how to fill the liquid fuel tank and gas tank to avoid alcohol spills, air leakage and fire outbreak. To avoid clogging the atomizer nozzle the liquid fuel poured into the upper canister should always be filtered to remove parties.

There should be more caution when miscible kerosene and isopropyl alcohol is used because this is a more explosive blend that may serious injuries if not properly handled.

Spilled alcohol should be wiped up immediately. Use only denatured alcohol. Never use gasoline, kerosene, methanol, propane, charcoal lighter, diesel or other flammable substances or fuels. Uncontrollable operation and flare-ups can result and cause serious burns or personal injury. The liquid fuel should be stored in appropriate container away from the stove, the engine or other heat sources. Eliminate all sources of sparks or flames in the area where fuel is poured or stored. Do not smoke while working with liquid fuel.A safe colorant is dissolved into denatured ethanol to prevent its possible consumption by users.

 Future development

Successful pilot project involving the manufacture, tests and evaluation of different variant prototypes of alcohol aerosol burner stoves would be conducted in several locations within and outside Nigeria. Effort would be geared towards cost effective local production of these stoves, ethanol and isopropyl alcohol.
The Nigerian portable stove Industry is set to be challenged to produce very large quantities of alcohol at a rate that could surpass Brazil, the world's largest ethanol producer. Since this alcohol stove uses different types of liquid fuel (ethanol, isopropyl alcohol and kerosene-isopropyl alcohol mixture) together with compressed air, it is envisaged that several franchise and artisan based business would spring up to adequately meet up with the construction, distribution, maintenance and marketing of products based on the alcohol aerosol burner’s sprayer embodiment.
