Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a significant contribution to Africa’s economy through job creation, sustainable economic growth, equitable distribution of income, and overall economic development. In Nigeria, they are responsible for 50% of employment and contribute 49.78% of Nigeria’s GDP and 7.6% export receipts (SMEDAN, 2019). Despite their significant contribution to the Nigerian economy, they have a high failure rate which is a result of several challenges with the most major challenge being access to financing. According to the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance 2021 Benchmarking Report, donation-based crowdfunding is the most accessible alternative finance option available to MSMEs as they are not expected to give up equity, debts, or rewards in exchange for funding. 1 in 10 campaigns raised on our platforms from MSMEs seeking financing from the public to inject into their struggling businesses. Several of such campaigns are from businesses that took a hit due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. As a way of giving back, Electronic Payplus employees have launched a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) campaign with the goal of raising NGN2, 000,000 (Two Million Naira only) which would be given to 10 viable MSMEs as grants of NGN200, 000 (Two Hundred Thousand Naira) each. The qualifying MSMEs will go through a stringent verification process to certify that they are fully registered and operational. Your kind donation is towards making this initiative successful is highly appreciated.
