Hyacinth Abuchi Nwafor is a final year student of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Jos who by his 3rd year began to experience ringing in his ears prompting frequent hospital visits. Gradually, he lost the ability to hear. On further investigations in Jos University Teaching Hospital and involvement of international specialists, it was discovered that he is suffering from a condition believed to be Neurofibromatosis. CT and MRI scan results revealed bilateral calcification (deposit of calcium salts and hardening of tissue) around the inner ears and bilateral tumors involving the auditory canal on both sides. These tumors on both sides of his ears are growing, and another tumor is growing on his forehead. He therefore requires surgery in the United States to remove the tumors and bilateral brain implants to restore his hearing ability. The surgery, the implant and staying in the US is estimated at ₦47,700,000.00
